The World Economic Forum in Davos decided to move toward the social media at this year’s conference. The organizers unveiled the beta version of an exclusive brand new social network called WELCOM. The site is reserved to high-profil attendees of the World Economic Forum, like Kofi Annan or Vladimir Putin.
The idea of the new Network is to share ideas between the world’s best and brightest. But will the world leaders bother to take time to contribute to the site? That is the question here.
WELCOM will allow world leaders to sign into virtual meetings via video technology for instance,to share documents, and discuss topics directly live. Members can also set up private rooms and invite guest experts to participate on posted topics. WELCOM can also publish works and news via a public page, in order to share results.
The members of this new service are encouraged to share personal news, but it’s doubtful that the greatest world leader will update their profile and reveal personal details.
This new application is not the only social tool used during the Forum. Active MySpace and Facebook pages were created and even a twitter feed was available. The Forum used alo Flickr to post photos and they featured 2 Youtube channels.
The World Economic Forum made definitely its mark in the social media at this year’s conference.
